March 14, 1879, Albert Einstein is born. He was born to a Jewish electrical engineer in Ulm, Germany. Einstein altered human understanding of the universe with his theories of special and general relativity. His work in particle and energy theory helped create quantum mechanics and, ultimately, the atomic bomb.

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

-Albert Einstein

He spend his childhood in Germany and Italy, he then moved to Switzerland for educational reasons. He attended the Federal Polytechnic Academy in Zurich (Switzerland). There he studied physics and mathematics and became a citizen.

In 1905 he was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich while working in Bern at the Swiss patent office. It was that same year which historians call the annus mirabilis (miricle year) of Einstein’s career. He published his five theoretical papers that had profoundly effected the development of physics and what has created our modern physics today.

“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer. “

-Albert Einstein
